The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC)  in Iraq had announced that the polls would be closed at 6 PM local time and that there would be no extension.

Polling stations opened in Iraq this morning to about 25 million eligible Iraqis, and they closed at 6 PM local time, according to IHEC.

The Iraqi Defense Ministry had announced that the Air Force was securing all polls.

More than 3200 Iraqis were running for the elections that will see 329 of them in Parliament with a quota system stipulating that women constitute at least 25% of Parliament.

IHEC also announced that the turnout at the special elections held Friday was 69%, and the special polls saw around 1.2 million members of the security forces, prisoners, and the displaced participating in the national process.
