Egypt announced that it had reduced its imports from America by 28.8%, to reach $431.6 million at the beginning of 2023, compared to $606.3 million during the corresponding period of the previous year.
Imports decreased by $174.6 million, according to the latest report of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics.
The Egyptian Mobilization and Statistics Authority indicated that imports of grains, oily fruits, medicinal plants, and fodder fell to $75.2 million during January 2023, compared to $253.8 million during the corresponding month of the previous year, a decrease of $178.6 million, or 70.4%, and its imports of boilers also decreased. Machinery and mechanical devices amounted to $34.8 million during January 2023, compared to $53.2 million during the corresponding month of the previous year, a decrease of $18.3 million, or 34.5%.
Imports of pharmaceutical products from the United States of America decreased to $18.6 million in January 2023, compared to $75.7 million in the corresponding month of the previous year, a difference of $57.1 million, or 75.4%.
On the other hand, imports of fuel, mineral oils, and their distillation products from America doubled by 721.8%, to record $101.1 million in January 2023, compared to $12.3 million during the corresponding period of the previous year, an increase of $88.8 million. Around $83.5 million during January 2023, compared to $13.6 million during the corresponding month of the previous year, an increase of $69.9 million, or 514.3%.
It is noteworthy that Egypt’s imports from the world’s total amounted to $6.3 billion during January 2023, compared to $8.8 billion during the corresponding month of the previous year, a decrease of $2.4 billion, or 28.2%.
