Yemen’s Houthi military spokesman confirmed its forces seized what it said is an “Israeli” ship in the Red Sea and took it to shore along with its crew.
“We are treating the crew in accordance with Islamic norms and principles,” Yahya Saree said.
He warned any ship belonging to Israel or those who support it will be a legitimate target for Houthi forces.
“We confirm our continuation of military operations against [Israel] until the aggression and ugly crimes against our Palestinian brothers in Gaza and the West Bank stop,” said Saree.
Israel’s government denied the ship was Israeli, calling it an “Iranian attack against an international vessel”. A US defence official said, “we’re aware of the situation and are closely monitoring it”.
