Hamas said the attack on the camp in central Gaza was a “heinous crime”.
Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud, reporting from Khan Younis, said the school – run by the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA – was sheltering displaced Palestinians fleeing violence in the north.
“There is a UNRWA flag on the roof of the building, and the Israeli military has its GPS coordinates. Still, it was targeted by bombs,” Mahmoud said.
“This is particularly concerning to residents of the central Gaza Strip, who have been told by the Israeli military that the area they are in is safe. Clearly, it is not.”
