Justin Trudeau told reporters this morning that his government is calling for a pause in the fighting in Gaza to allow captives to be released, get foreign nationals out of the territory, and get assistance in.
The pause has to be “long enough to start not just get aid in, but getting resources and medication and supports while we begin doing the work of de-escalating the situation”.
He said that de-escalation also needs to happen in the occupied West Bank and in the region.
Trudeau has faced criticism for his government’s refusal to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
