Iraq Military Intelligence Thwart Two Terrorist Attacks

Major General Fayez Al-Maamouri, the director of the Directorate of General Military Intelligence in Iraq, announced Tuesday that the Iraqi forces thwarted two terrorist attacks meant to be carried out on the tenth of Muharram against pilgrims.

“The attacks were to be carried out in Tarmiyah, north of Baghdad, as well as areas in the Babylon Governorate,” Al-Maamouri clarified.

Moreover, Al Mayadeen‘s correspondent reported that two global coalition convoys were attacked, revealing that the attack was carried out using improvised explosive devices in Babylon and Al Diwaniyah in southern Baghdad.

In Diyala Governorate, the spokesman for the Iraqi Armed Forces, Yahya Rasool, announced that the forces thwarted an attempt to attack transmission towers.

A few days ago, the Iraqi Armed Forces started, along with the Popular Mobilization Forces, a large-scale search operation for ISIS remnants throughout Nineveh in northern Iraq.

Additionally, the Iraqi Armed Forces and the PMF started the second day of Muharram operations to search and secure Tarmiyah, a town in Salah al-Din Governorate.

The joint forces made advances backed by the Iraqi armed forces’ aircraft to secure the northern Baghdad areas from ISIS remnants, which were aiming to launch attacks on the areas during Muharram to target pilgrims.
